Matthew.

I’ve been writing, performing and recording music for more than 20 years.

I’m a founding member and drummer of The Graeme Watkins Project, the lead singer of Sergeant Fu, and I’ve spent much of my life in studios, rehearsal rooms, theatres and on stages around the world.

But the thing I care about most is songwriting.

I believe a song is more than its production or technical detail. It’s a feeling someone managed to capture. A message, a memory, a frequency, something created by one person that can land inside somebody else.

Whether it was made in a professional studio, recorded as a voice note, played on one guitar string or built with AI, it still comes down to the same things:

That’s what I listen for.

Over the years, musicians have often asked me to be one of the first people to hear their new work. Not because I’m trying to find mistakes, but because I enjoy understanding where a song came from and offering an honest first impression of what it communicates.

That’s the heart of a Listening Session.
